Proton Competition Porsche 991 RSR

Earlier this year, I was commissioned to produce a livery for Proton Competition, one of the Porsche supported teams which competes in the WEC and Le Mans. Along with Falken Tire (who I also assisted with their 2014 991 livery), they are the only non-factory team to run a new generation Porsche 991.

In 2013, Proton changed their livery to Silver and Black design, based on Tully’s sponsorship in the US for Patrick Dempsey. For 2014 the team wanted a design which flowed along the car, not too complicated as very little time was left to design and wrap but retain the Silver and Black. As you can see, at this point, the car was to have significant branding from Eyecoon and Remus. The Remus face has been subtly adjusted so the eyes fit on the air outlet blades.

Falken Tire Comission

I have been fortunate to have worked with Falken Tires on a few small projects in recent years. This year I was able to assist on logo placement for the Porsche 911 RSR in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship and my artwork was also used prior to the full car launch at Sebring. I have also designed a number of stickers in recent years for the company. The latest set, for Falken’s Formula Drift program is shown above.

Twenty Years Ago : Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna da Silva

This week marks the 20th Anniversary of the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna at Imola, Italy. I remember very clearly watching Qualifying with my housemates while at Coventry University, going cold after Roland had crashed and they zoomed in on the wreckage, this coming just 24hours after a horrendous accident for Rubens Barrichello during practice. Roland was a very gifted and under-rated driver. Like his team mate David Brabham, he was sure to go onto better things and had been relatively successful in Japan in sportscars, having driven for Toyota and the SARD team. Continue Reading

2014 Fredric Aasbø Scion tC Formula Drift Livery

I have recently been working with Formula Drift driver Fredric Aasbø, his team, Papadakis Racing and Speedhunters on a new identity for his Scion tC.

news_fred_tc14_2

Speedhunter’s Rod Chong originally contacted me last year to work on some ideas for new liveries to replace the iconic Team Need for Speed identity which I designed in 2010. Despite ‘Team NFS’ ceasing to exist a couple of years ago, the asymmetric has continued with updated Speedhunters branding for Fredric (below).

Camp Boggy Creek Livery for Bayshore Racing

Round Two of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, the 12 Hours of Sebring takes place this weekend and I am delighted to confirm an additional livery in the series for Camp Boggy Creek, Bayshore Recycling and PR1/Mathiasen Motorsport. This makes a total of nine cars racing at Sebring with my liveries!

news_BS_art_final

Sponsor Bayshore Recycling commissioned me earlier this month to design a livery for their new affiliation with Camp Boggy Creek – the Florida-based camp for seriously ill children. The tie-in with Camp Boggy Creek came through team partner Bayshore Recycling’s desire to highlight a worthy charity for the 2014 season. The decision to form the partnership with Camp Boggy Creek is thanks to the late, great Paul Newman.

Danny George Formula Drift Livery Design

Formula Drift Fan Favourite, Danny George reached out to me for his 2014 livery. Danny has been competing in Formula Drift for a couple of years with a first generation Mazda MX-5 Miata. In 2013 his introduced crowd sourcing and the ability for fans to donate and have a picture on his car in a camouflage livery.  For 2014, Danny wanted a new design around the same concept for his new purpose build second generation (NB) Miata.

TAG Heuer Eyewear celebrate Tommy Milner and Corvette

Following the design of the new 2014 Helmet for Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner (see below), I was commissioned by TAG Heuer Eyewear to produce an illustration celebrating the return of Tommy Milner and Corvette GT cars to Daytona. The style was a modern day version of the classic Le mans and Monaco GP posters and should hopefully be the start of a series. Obtaining reference proved a challenge as the new Corvette C7.R livery was only launched earlier this week, so I started with reference images of their camouflage test car, which was a challenge. The C5.R also proved a challenge early on. Winner at the 2001 event, before the internet took off, there was little imagery around, but legendary photographer, John Brooks came to the rescue with 10 images of the C5.R at that race.

A larger image resides on TAG Heuer Eyewear’s Facebook page, which is also where you will be able to download desktop wallpaper of the design shortly.

New look inside and out for CJ Wilson Racing

Press Release:
These two race cars will catch the eye even when they are standing still thanks to brand new race liveries created for the team by renowned automotive artist, Andy Blackmore.

CJW_PR_3_full_layout

Team owner, CJ Wilson can barely contain his enthusiasm. “The new race season is here and we have been looking forward to it greatly. As a team we trended upward and won some races last season – and keeping all four of our drivers together makes our team even stronger than 2013. After two years of developing we really feel like this will be our best year yet from a partnership standpoint and from the pit crew and driver perspective everyone is amped and ready to fight for a championship.”

The eye catching new team liveries are also helping to raise Wilson’s excitement levels. “Our MX-5s look fantastic! We have kept the same graphical shape but we have added new types of material to both wraps. The #3 and the #5 cars will be showing up in a lot of Daytona pit lane pictures for sure!”

DeltaWing 2014 campaign launched with new livery

Press Release:

24-hour sports car endurance races are as much a matter of survival as competition – an adage even more accurate this week, as DeltaWing Racing Cars prepares to battle more than 60 fellow competitors in the inaugural event of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

A host of new elements have made the virtually nonexistent off season an interesting one for the DeltaWing team: a new livery, designed by Andy Blackmore Design, a new tire (the Prototype class runs exclusively on Continental tires), a new television network (all TUDOR Championship races will be on the FOX network) and of course, the new series itself. With the former American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am series now united, the Prototype class has grown to a whopping 18 cars.
